Jun and Christine Apatan

Jun and Christine Apatan are currently serving on the island of Bohol in the central Philippines. Their main ministry is in two areas: mentoring and teaching. In 2018 Christine moved to Bohol to start a new English language program in partnership with the Evangelical Churches of Christ Universal Incorporated (ECCUII). In 2020 Christine and Jun got married in Bohol.

Christine’s main focus is to continue teaching English with support from Jun. She creates lesson plans and teaches two-hour classes that meet each week. Each semester varies with three to six classes based on the number and level of students. Jun supports her via translation of vocabulary and occasionally as a teacher aid for the more basic classes to make sure teacher and students understand each other.

Jun’s main focus is mentoring and preaching with support from Christine. He often takes time to just be with people in the community, especially if he notices others are avoiding them. He is sometimes asked to preach on special occasions in the ECCUI such as youth events, funerals, and even translating sermons when a visiting English-speaking pastor comes. Christine supports him via research and being present when he is called to preach.

In the future, Jun and Christine hope to build a small dormitory near the local high school to support some of the students who travel from a neighboring island. The goals would include Bible studies, life skills training, and mentoring.
