With the purpose of being the church in the community, the Stothers will move into the Greater Shankill Road community in Belfast and come alongside the people sharing the blessings of a full life. |

Ward pursued Seminary in 2000. He rediscovered his gift for poetic use of language. He found that his Irish Catholic upbringing, his poetry, and his commitment to the church, found congruity in reconciliation work in Ireland.
The Stothers responded to an invitation from Rev. Jack Drennan, Crumlin Road Presbyterian Church in the Greater Shankill Road community, arriving in April 2008. Ward is a pastoral assistant. Together they will discover what can revitalize the church (60 worshipers from 220 families who claim membership).
Ward and Marda come prepared for Shankill Road, growing up in urban neighborhoods in NYC (Bronx) and Los Angeles. Ward’s use of poetic metaphors in prayers, preaching, and teaching is an attractive element for subtle communication. Ward is the first former Catholic in this church and through the Stothers new believers, inquirers, or people in need may follow. They pray that they can help the Irish Church embrace change and go out themselves to spread their good news that God’s Holy Spirit is amongst us.
They have made their presence known to other Christian groups to build bridges. Ward participated in a Peace and Reconciliation Study Tour in 2004. They attended the 2006 Kingdom Come Ireland Conference with 700 people of various denominations and will help if the conference is repeated.
They bring spiritual maturity, perseverance, and servant leadership, good communication skills, and the gift of listening. Ward will concentrate on both growing the church of Jesus Christ and deepening the faith of the people.
