Dick and Birdie Johnson
For 38 years, Dick and Birdie have served in ministry with cross-cultural missions their main focus. After graduating from the Bethany College of Missions, Bloomington, MN, they pastored in Central Nebraska for 2 years. Since then they have served as missionaries among Spanish speaking people for 35 years in Puerto Rico, the U.S. and Mexico.
Throughout their ministry, they have been pastors, served pastors and served missionaries in a pastoral role. They’ve served in the cities and among the Mexican indigenous. As they sensed their career coming to a close, they wanted to continue helping the local church fulfill its God-given purpose in reaching the world for Christ. They will be communicating with both the sending church and their sent missionary to help strenghthen their relationship and increase their effectiveness.
Married in 1968, they have two grown sons, both born and raised in Puerto Rico. Having raised “MK’s” (missionary kids) gives Birdie insight into this area of need in the missionary’s family. And being of Mexican heritage gives her added insight and helps her to identify with some of the cultural difficulties faced on the field.
