Jim and Kay Hines

Jim & Kay Hines provide medical care to the poor in Guatemala. They work in a medical clinic associated with Principe de Paz, a home for girls near Guatemala City.  They also do a weekly clinic in a remote Mayan village and direct much of the ministry of the girl’s home.

Jim and Kay Hines made their first short term mission trip to Guatemala in 1984. God planted a seed in their hearts for Guatemala that led to the decision in 2004 to retire from a successful medical practice and move to Guatemala to serve on a full time basis. Kay has been a Home Economics teacher and homemaker. Jim practiced Internal Medicine in Corpus Christi, Texas for 27 years. Their three grown sons were out of the home and they knew this was the time to make the change and they moved to Antigua, Guatemala where they began language school.

Though the opportunities are endless, God led them to work in two different ministries. The first is Prince of Peace Home for Girls. This is a home in Guatemala City for girls from very abusive homes. Very few are orphans. Here the girls are able to live in a safe environment and experience for the first time the love of God. Kay teaches the older girls cooking classes. Jim and Kay both work in the medical clinic which ministers to the girls in the home and to a group of very poor Mayans who live around the home.

Jim also works at the Hand of Hope Medical Clinic located in a remote area that ministers to approximately 8000 Mayans. These people are extremely poor and have no source of medical care. Through the practical means of medical care, the love of Christ is demonstrated to the people and many have come to salvation in Christ.
