Walter and Maribel Requejo

Walter & Maribel (Sosa-Chavez) Requejo serve as missionaries in the area of Ensenada, Mexico, teaching, equipping, and discipling youth through a God-ordained ministry known as Los Elegidos (The Chosen Ones) Bible Club (aka H.E.L.P. - Hope Endures thru Loving People), located in the small community of Cañon Buena Vista (aka Zorrillo or El Zorro) just 12 miles south of Ensenada.

They are both passionate about the Lord’s Great Commission (Matt28:18-20). After serving and discipling other youth in the area since 2007, God has called them specifically to this community, where they have served faithfully for the last 12 years (since 2012), ministering to over hundreds of kids.

Through Bible studies, fellowship, prayer, and worship, along with a God-provided recreation ministry center, the Lord has allowed them to develop a deep relationship with the kids and their entire families. Most importantly, the desire to see all the kids fall in love with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and be that light He has called them to be has become a reality over the years . . .

Five days of the week are set aside so kids from elementary through high school and university can attend bible studies, evenings of prayer, worship, recreation, bible exams, radio production, movie nights, and fellowship at the ministry center, with food always provided by their generous, faithful supporters back in the U.S.

Outside of the community, kids are encouraged to engage in sports and recreational activities, camping trips, movie and bowling outings, beach outings, Christian concerts, and evangelical outreaches in and outside of the community.

Kids also partake in monthly food distributions as they go out and share the gospel, food, and Bible tracts and pray for families in need in the surrounding areas. The Lord has also led the group to start their very own radio ministry heard live worldwide at WWW.KCSB.ORG and locally @91.9 KCSB-FM, Santa Barbara, Calif., Sundays from 7 am-8 am, where the kids host and preach the gospel with Christian HipHop music in Spanish.

The ministry center has become a house of blessings as teams from the U.S. and Canada visit and provide dental care, vision care, light construction for families in need, showers, homes, much-needed food and clothing for the impoverished area, and first and foremost the gospel - all are welcomed into the Body of Christ.

Los Elegidos is also involved in a number of other ministries, including three “Casa de Abuelos” (safe homes for abandoned grandparents), three Christian rehabs (drugs and alcohol) homes in the area, “safe homes” for young girls as well as moms with kids. Through the generous donations of our beloved, the youth have been able to bless other ministries with clothing, food, pay utility bills, and anything else the Lord provides to bless those in need. Future desires for Los Elegidos Ministry include building up enough monthly sponsors to fund our college leaders who have taken over the reins of the ministry (bible studies and prayer during the week) and, as the Lord leads, raising funds to purchase property to build their very own ministry center (currently renting); to ALWAYS follow God’s will for all those actively involved in the ministry.

Walter & Maribel have a strong foundation back home through the support of their home church, Hope Chapel of Huntington Beach, California, pastored by Paul Harmon along with their longtime missionary friend Wayne Palica, current Community Outreach Director at Jesus House in Westminster, CA, who has supported and frequently served with them and the ministry over the last 15 years.

They are also very thankful for all the long-lasting relationships the Lord has provided them through the course of their ministry years, including (but not limited to) the “AZ Crew” (Highlands Church), “The O.C. All-Stars” (John M. & Co.), The Herbisons, Chufar Girls, Berta’s Angels, Run2Rescue, Pleuss Family, Ruiz Family, Reality Family, Requejo families and so many others there is not sufficient space here . . .

Walt and Maribel have been part of the amazing CTEN family since the end of 2017 and are very grateful for all the work this group has done for missionaries all over the world! God is faithful!
