Donations, Receipting, And Your Role
By applying to become a missionary under Commission To Every Nation Canada, you are applying to become an employee. As a missionary employee, you will be authorized (deputized) to fund raise for CTEN to raise the finances to sustain your work.
CTEN Canada, a registered charity under the CRA, has the right to issue tax-deductible receipts for all donations given to it. It also has the legal responsibility to use those funds only to fulfill its own charitable purposes.
In your application to CTEN you are asked to describe your ministry call. When we review your application, we must determine if your ministry call and proposed activities fit within CTEN’s charitable purpose. If we determine that your focus for ministry is compatible with CTEN’s charitable purpose, your ministry focus will come under CTEN’s ministry focus.
Our Board of Directors has determined that we will honor a donor’s preference for where funds will be used as long as the project designated is a board-approved project with CTEN.
Administrative Funding
CTEN Canada exists for one reason: “to preach and advance the teachings of the Christian faith and the religious tenets, doctrines, observances and culture associated with that faith.” The administrative section of CTEN has no reason to exist other than to support our missionaries who are in the front lines accomplishing the objectives for which we are founded.
CTEN Canada withholds 10% of all donations to fund home office costs. These include administrative services to our missionaries, accounting and management costs, donor receipting costs, etc.
CTEN Canada engages all its missionaries as employees. That means we withhold and pay our missionaries’ payroll taxes, including CPP & EI as required, as well as the employer’s matching portion of CPP and EI from funds donated towards the missionary’s support, in addition to the 10% administration fund.
By accepting this Statement of Financial Relationship, you are agreeing to cooperatively partner with CTEN Canada in the furtherance of its charitable purposes as expressed through your ministry objectives and the funds you raise through CTEN, and to submit the same to CTEN Canada’s authority and practices.
