Bob & Virginia Travis
Bob and Virginia Travis’ ministry is with college and international students, immigrants, and expatriates. Much of their work revolves around a cross-cultural evangelistic Bible study using various languages. Also, friendship evangelism continues to play a vital role in seeing individuals come to Christ.
Bob and Virginia live in Aurora, Illinois, an hour west of Chicago. Known as the "City of Lights," Aurora is Illinois' second-largest city. Founded in 1834 along the Fox River, it earned its glowing nickname in 1881 by becoming one of the first U.S. cities with an all-electric street lighting system. It spans four counties and features a rich industrial, cultural, and architectural history. Today, Aurora has a population of over 181,000 people and is ethnically diverse. Approximately 26.4 % of Aurora's residents are foreign-born, and 46.4% of residents (age 5 and older) speak a language other than English at home.
Bob and Virginia went to Japan in 1986 and spent 22 years there as church-planting missionaries. They returned to the U.S. in 2008 and continued their ministry in cross-cultural evangelism and discipleship, having a desire to reach those who have not yet had the opportunity to hear the Gospel clearly because of language and cultural barriers.
