Isaias and Virginia Colop-Xec
Isaias and Ginny have been serving God in Southwestern Guatemala for 29 years among Isaias’ people, the Quiches. The Quiches are the largest Mayan group in Guatemala numbering over two million people. Throughout the years, the Colop-Xec’s goal and passion has been to strengthen the Quiche church by giving Biblical training to its leadership in their own language and at their own location. On the average, the rural pastors and church leaders that the Colop-Xec’s work with have only a second to third grade secular education. Although they have no formal Bible training, they do not qualify for most Bible institutes in Guatemala. Seeing their need, Isaias developed three levels of Bible training courses taking into account that the Quiches are oral people who look at life holistically. Isaias’ first course is Panorama of the Bible which is a study of the whole Bible based on the way God has worked through Biblical characters to accomplish His purposes. Isaias’ second course is called Synthesis of each book of the Bible. It is a study of the content of the 66 books of the Bible. His third course is entitled Analysis of the Literature of the Bible. It is a study of the four different types of literature of the Bible. This last course teaches the pastors how to study, interpret and apply Scripture. These courses are taught by itinerant Quiche teachers who have graduated from the Colop-Xec’s Bible Institute and have been trained to teach by Isaias and Ginny. Over their many years in Guatemala, hundreds of faithful pastors and church leaders have been trained through the Colop-Xec’s ministry. These faithful men are now continuing to teach others by preaching the Word of God in their churches and by planting new churches.
