Toby and Sara Shannon

 

In 1983 God brought Toby, a missionary kid from Peru, and Sara, a salesman’s kid from Maine, together in the Amazon jungle of Peru! Their passion for the Lord and desire to use their gifts, skills, and experience to glorify Him have taken them worldwide. They have four beloved children, one of whom is adopted from Peru, and two equally beloved grandchildren.

The Shannons began serving in VOCATIONAL and DISCIPLESHIP training in Peru in 1984. They have also served in International Relief for two years in Haiti with Samaritan’s Purse and continue on-call for DART (Disaster Assistance Response Team). In addition, natural disasters and the Covid pandemic have taken Toby in logistics and Sara as staff chaplain to the Philippines, Mozambique, Italy, and Haiti.

Currently Toby and Sara are basing out of Maine, Toby dividing his time evenly between Maine and Peru and Sara working virtually from Maine, Peru and globally as she coordinates a network of volunteer biblical counselors with significant cross-cultural experience to providing MISSIONARIES and DISASTER RELIEF workers around the world. In addition, she is an adjunct professor of BIBLICAL COUNSELING with the Baptist Theological Seminary of Lima, helping to equip Latin American pastors and lay leaders to face enormous ministry challenges with Godly wisdom and compassion. soul care to Missionaries and Relief Workers

Toby serves on the Board of Directors of a small Christian, Peruvian NGO Yapey Yurijcuna/Renacer, which is Quechua for those who are being reborn as in 1 Peter 1:23, For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. Renacer provides vocational and life skills training for PERUVIANS with DISABILITIES. Toby also ministers through discipleship and mechanics and welding training.

Motorcycling has long been a passion for Toby. In 2013 he began he began using his extensive knowledge of motorcycling and the regions, culture, and people of Peru to develop a BUSINESS as MISSION that provides work and income for 5 Peruvian families. Together they meet with government and law enforcement officials, reaching out to the international and national motorcycling communities with mechanical and organizational skills, hospitality, security, route planning, and even rescue missions – all in the name and love of Christ. Toby is the founder and director of Caminos del Colono, an up and coming international motorcycle and 4 wheeler rally covering 500 miles of mountain roads in the Andes.
